What are people willing to pay for eBooks?

Readers will pay your listed price, as long as:

• The price is at least reasonable for your readership

• They really want or need what you're selling

• They trust you will deliver a high-quality product

• They trust you will deliver what you've promised and more

• They know they will get immediate gratification (immediate delivery)

Ebooks range in price from $8 upwards and can go as high as $80-90 depending on their scope and subject matter.

Non-fiction / how-to books are generally higher-priced since they are more sought after... more in demand by the market they are targeting and they can command the higher price.

What could one charge for an eBook?

Reach a price by considering the following:

1. Is there a pressing need for your book

2. The income-level of your target audience

The first author to publish a book on any topic will be able to charge a higher price.

Also, if your target audience encompasses a high-income group like doctors or lawyers, your pricing can reflect the depth of your readers wallets.

Try to find hot new topics that haven't yet been published and you may find a winner!

Changing the Price is a good trial strategy and you can experiment freely with pricing. For example – try different pricing models for a few months before settling on a final number. You may find that raising the price of your book by even $3-5 may halt your sales completely.

So vary the price periodically over the first few weeks of sales and distribution. It's better to start high and work your way down. Don't do it the other way around. Readers may be understandably annoyed if they wanted to buy the book yesterday, but it costs twice as much today.

All too often, selling any product for a slightly higher price gives the impression of a better-quality product and this is as applicable to books. Readers could assume the material is worth that much more, or that your book is the prime source of information on that particular subject.

Experimentation is a must.
